POWERS AND ABILITIES Horns - An Eelum’s horns are used during close quarters combat. They are extremely durable and while they can look dull their durability allows them to use their horns to pierce sturdy objects. It is not impossible to break their horns, as some Eelum can be seen with broken horns or chunks taken out. This happens during combat or through malicious intent (cutting off horns by traders).
Legs and Feet - Eelum possess the capability to jump to great heights from a standing position. They do not need to prep themselves as their muscles grant them that ability to launch themselves. The height of their jumps depends on the Eelum themselves. Some say shorter Eelum can jump much farther than their taller counterparts. The same muscles that grant the Eelum their jumping capabilities also give them immense strength when it comes to kicking. They can deliver devastating blows that at the right angle can break bones inside an opponent's body without much effort. The same kick, if the focal point is their talons on their feet, can rip flesh from bone.
Tails - Their tails are often used to knock back their enemies or knock them off balance. They do not use them often for self defense due to fear of their tail being yanked and pulled which is very painful for them.
Magic - Not all Eelum have the ability to use magic. It is not necessary for them. It is a trait that is learned when they are young, some spells being passed down from parent to child. If an Eelum has the prowess to learn magic, they are able to learn a multitude of spells ranging from hexes, elemental and healing. Magic is not something that an Eelum flaunts willingly as they use their feathers as a catalyst to cast their spells. Common spells known are simple healing spells (cuts, bruises, broken bones, etc), minor elemental spells (they usually pick one element to focus on as a child and that is what they excel in, so if a young Eelum is drawn to water, by the time they are summoned they would have a strong affinity to use water spells), and spells to repel individuals or create barriers.
Any other types of magic are something the Eelum learns as they get older. They are not capable of things like bringing the dead back to life, time travel or control, blood magic and mind control. They can cause things like hallucinations and illusions though.
If an Eelum does not seem to be able to grasp the concept of magic at a young age, they are then trained in combat fighting where they will learn how to use their body both as a weapon and a shield.
